DEL MAR, Calif. — SANDAG hosted its second workshop on Wednesday to engage the Del Mar community on a controversial plan to put a train tunnel under the city. Meetings surrounding the topic have been well-attended, with local residents continuing to show they want to be a part of the process at every step. “It’s really destructive to Del Mar. Tourism is probably going to go way down,” said Monica Meredith with “Save Del Mar." Amtrak switching to fuel made from cooking oil for Pacific Surfliner service Community members have asked about noise, vibrations, and what will happen to their homes and businesses if the tunnel would run beneath them. SANDAG addressed several of those concerns while speaking with FOX 5. “People who might’ve been concerned that there would be a vent near their home, that’s not the way the design is. It’s just step one on the north and south ends,” explained Sharon Humphreys, SANDAG Director of Engineering and Construction. One renderi...

New Hockey Canada policy requires players wear a ‘base layer’ in the dressing room

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 19:26:07 GMT

Hockey Canada has implemented a new policy requiring minor league hockey players to wear a base layer of clothing in the dressing room. The Dressing Room Policy applies to any minor team sanctioned by the organization — covering those in the youngest age group all the way up to 18-year-olds — and prohibits players from fully stripping down to change into their gear unless they head over to a closed-off bathroom stall and close the door. While that may not be a lot to ask for some, there are many dressing rooms at hockey rinks across Canada that only have one or two bathroom stalls — not nearly enough closed spaces for upwards of 20 hockey players. This is a problem Hockey Canada seemingly foresaw, as it recognizes the limitations of some buildings and asks associations to “ensure that appropriate and equivalent dressing environments are available to all participants” in the policy’s guidelines.Related articles:Canada’s sports minister tells hockey l...

Armed dog walker for hire in Orange County

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 19:26:07 GMT

A dog-loving retired police sergeant in Orange County has taken it upon herself to protect the furriest of family members by offering armed dog walking escorts.  Unfortunately, it’s has become an all too familiar and terrifying trend, thieves targeting dog owners often with a violent outcome.  Probably one of the most memorable of these pup heists was the violent attack on Ryan Fischer, Lady Gaga’s dog walker, in West Hollywood in Feb. 2021. Fischer was walking the pop star’s French Bulldogs when a car pulled up, three men got out and shot him before fleeing. Both of the dogs were later returned to Lady Gaga.  The man responsible for shooting Fischer, James Howard Jackson, was later captured and sentenced to 21 years in prison.  That famous dognapping was enough for Carol Salvatierra, now retired from the Santa Ana Police Department, to launch Leash and Shield, an armed dog walking and bodyguard service where the motto is "To Protect and Walk." “I was in sho...
