Why St. Louis had an 'ocean of fog' Wednesday morning ST. LOUIS -- A dense fog bank lined the Mississippi riverfront at St. Louis Wednesday morning. Bommarito Automotive Group SkyFOX Helicopter captured epic images of the Gateway Arch before a sea of clouds. The FOX 2 photographer in the helicopter, Doug Larson, says that this is a rare sight to see. The weather phenomenon only happens a few times a year, in the spring and in the fall.Meteorologist John Fuller explains that what we saw this morning is called radiation fog. It is also known as ground fog or valley fog. It happens when there is a clear sky, little wind, and high humidity. The fog is produced when the air near the ground is cooled to saturation. NCAA goals leader Jason Polin signs one-year deal with Avalanche, joins AHL Eagles on professional tryout Jason Polin, the NCAA’s leading goal-scorer in 2022-23, signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday and will report to AHL-Loveland for a professional tryout with the Eagles.Polin was a senior captain at Western Michigan this season, scoring 30 goals to double his career total in four years with the Broncos. One person dead in Boulder structure fire One person was killed in a structure fire on Dartmouth Avenue in Boulder on Wednesday afternoon.Boulder Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Marya Washburn said the fire appears to have started in the basement of a single structure in the 2800 block of Dartmouth Avenue.Firefighters were able to put out the fire and stop it from spreading, and Washburn said there is no threat to the public at this time.Washburn said the initial call was that one person was inside the building at the time of the fire, and it was later confirmed that one person was declared dead on scene.There are no other injuries reported at this time.The name of the victim and the cause of their death will be determined by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.Washburn said that because the fire was in the basement of the building, firefighters are proceeding cautiously and working on making sure the scene is safe before investigators can start on determining the cause of the fire.Police have blocked Dartmouth Avenue between...

Mammoth Mountain sets all-time snowfall record Southern California has seen extraordinary precipitation this year, and while much of that has been rain, snowfall has also set records in some areas.Mammoth Mountain announced on Wednesday that it has received more snow this season than any other year on record.This year's measurement of 695 total inches of snow at the Main Lodge dwarfs the 260 inches received in the 2021-22 season, according to the resort. Rowland Heights identity thieves sought: Sheriff's Department The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's help in identifying three men who allegedly stole credit cards in Rowland Heights earlier this month.According to a news release, the three men took two credit cards and cash from a car in the 17000 block of East Colima Road on March 8, then bought nine gift cards worth $200 each using the stolen credit cards.The alleged thieves were captured on security footage that day. One man was wearing a green zip-up jacket, black pants and gray shoes; the second was wearing a gray shit with an NBA logo, gray sweatpants and black shoes; and the last was wearing a navy blue sweater, ribbed jeans and gray shoes.Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective E.
