SEATTLE — No, the 49ers would not blow a 21-point halftime lead on Thanksgiving night to add to their historical woes here against the host Seahawks.Instead, a 31-13 victory sent the 49ers (8-3) back to the Bay on a three-game win streak, which they’ll put on the line Dec. 3 in an NFC Championship Game rematch at the Philadelphia Eagles.Afterward, in a scene reminiscent of NBC’s postgame nine years earlier when the Seahawks ate turkey at Levi’s Stadium, seven different 49ers huddled up for the on-field interview: Brock Purdy, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, Charvarius Ward, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle, the latter of whom ran to the locker room with turkey on a silver platter.Things were much more tense about an hour earlier on that field.Purdy threw his first career pick-six to spark the Seahawks’ second-half comeback bid, and after a goal-line stand forced Seattle to settle for a field goal, the 49ers’ lead was down to 24-13.Purdy’s eventual response:...

49ers Studs and Duds: It wasn’t always pretty, but the Niners stars provide another blowout win

SEATTLE — Don’t let the final score fool you — the 49ers’ 31-13 win over the Seahawks wasn’t that easy. There were moments when the Niners looked to have let the Seahawks back into the contest. But the same door the Niners left open in the third quarter, they shut with an emphatic fourth.A few weeks after falling into second place in the division, San Francisco is now in the driver’s seat in the NFC West — up two games on the Seahawks with a tiebreaker (for now, these teams will play again on Dec. 10).And in a game where the Niners’ defense didn’t allow a touchdown and the offense came up with a big touchdown late, there are more studs than duds: STUDSChristian McCaffreyHis eight-yard touchdown run was truly spectacular. Savor ‘Saltburn’ for the style, not substance

Published Fri, 21 Feb 2025 18:05:26 GMT

With “Saltburn,” writer-director Emerald Fennell has put into the world something delicious, debaucherous and, at times, a little dopey.Part vaguely absurd comedy and part twisted thriller, the latest effort from the promising “Promising Young Woman” filmmaker is a tale of obsession taking place during the mid-2000s within a world of the wealthy where beauty is overvalued. In its opening moments, Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) tells us that everyone was in love with classmate Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), but not him. ‘Leave the World Behind’ grim, scary & great

Sam Esmail of Hoboken, N.J. and “Mr. Robot” fame just blew my mind with his must-see end of the world thriller “Leave the World Behind.” One of the strengths of the film, outside of a cast headed by Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali and Kevin Bacon, is that it is so believable. The bitterly cynical and admittedly misanthropic advertising analyst Amanda Sandford (Roberts) wakes up and decides that she and her family, including husband and professor of English and Media Studies Clay (Hawke) and adolescent children Archie (Charlie Evans) and younger Rose (Farrah Mackenzie) should leave their chic Park Slope, Brooklyn home and go to “the country” for a quick vacation. The “country” is a few miles away in Long Island, where they get to stay in a beautiful home near the beach. “Leave the World Behind,” which is based on a 2020 novel by American author Rumaan Alam and produced by among others Barrack and Michelle Obama, is nothing less than a modern-day version of Alfred Hitchcock&...
