Vikings rookie receiver Jordan Addison active for game against Packers

Vikings rookie receiver Jordan Addison active for game against Packers Initially, there was concern from the Vikings that rookie receiver Jordan Addison might not be able to suit up against the Green Bay Packers on New Year’s Eve. He suffered an ankle injury last weekend in a 30-24 loss to the Detroit Lions on Christmas Eve and was a limited participant in practice this week.In the end, Addison progressed enough to be active in the primetime game at U.S. Bank Stadium, perhaps knowing the Vikings needed a win to keep their playoffs hopes alive. Not only did his presence provide the offense with another weapon for rookie quarterback Jaren Hall, it also opened up other areas of the field for star receiver Justin Jefferson. It’s been a solid campaign for Addison since the Vikings selected him with the No. 23 pick in the draft. He impressed from the onset in training camp, carving out a niche for himself in the offense, and piling up 63 catches for 826 yards and nine touchdowns heading into the game between the Vikings and Packers.Asked earlier t...

Broncos report card: A quality defensive outing propels Denver to home win over Chargers on New Year’s Eve

Broncos report card: A quality defensive outing propels Denver to home win over Chargers on New Year’s Eve Offense — CThe Broncos offense in many ways looked similar to the work Russell Wilson did over the season’s first 15 games. Head coach Sean Payton had to burn a timeout on the third paly of the game. The Broncos struggled in goal-to-go situations and the well went dry for the entirety of the third quarter. At the same time, though, Denver ran the ball effectively and Stidham found something of a rhythm after a slow start. He threw for 165 yards in the first half and 224 overall. He didn’t wow, but he also didn’t turn the ball over. This one’s not going in the hall of fame by any stretch after 313 yards of offense (4.7 per play) and the team’s lowest scoring output since Week 6, but the Broncos controlled most of the game and did enough to get the job done.Defense — A-The Broncos defense shut down the Chargers’ makeshift offense from the start. They allowed just a trio of field goals on the afternoon and held quarterback Easton Stick and company to 2 of 11 on ...

Broncos four downs: Sean Payton might be best coach Broncos have had since Super Bowl. But he’s a lousy liar.

Broncos four downs: Sean Payton might be best coach Broncos have had since Super Bowl. But he’s a lousy liar. Initial thoughts from the Denver Broncos’ win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 17 at Empower Field:1. What spark?: It’s not that Sean Payton thinks reporters are dumb. (We are.) It’s that he presumes Broncos Country is, too. So much for that “spark” offensively that he claimed was the reason for the benching of Russell Wilson in the lead-up to Sunday’s home finale. Against a Chargers defense that checked out weeks ago and had given up an average of 44.5 points, 242 passing yards and 356.5 total yards over its last two tilts, the Jarrett Stidham-led Denver offense managed all of 16 points, 212 yards through the air and 313 yards overall. In other words, pretty close to what Big Russ had managed over the last month or so, give or take. Payton might be the best coach the franchise has seen since Peyton Manning retired. But the man’s a lousy liar.2. Humphrey rolls: Three months later, Marvin Mims Jr. is still untouched for the season’...

Actor Ian Ziering takes beating from mini-bikers in Hollywood Actor Ian Ziering, best known for his role in “Beverly Hills 90210,” appears to have been caught on camera in a fight with a group of people riding motorized mini bikes in Hollywood on New Years Eve, according to a report from TMZ. It is unclear what exactly prompted the Hollywood Boulevard brawl, but video posted by the tabloid outlet shows Ziering pushing one of the mini-bike riders, who was right in front of what seems to be his SUV before an all out fight broke out. The 59-year-old “Sharknado” actor is then immediately ganged up on by several of the other bikers. In an attempt to get away, Ziering makes a dash across busy Hollywood Boulevard, dragging his attackers along with him.  When he gets to the other side of the street, the footage shows him fighting back as he gets walloped by one of the bikers, eventually breaking free and running away on the sidewalk.  TMZ reported that both the bikers and Ziering left the scene with their vehicles and that it doesn’t ap...

'Coldest storm of the season' to usher in new year

'Coldest storm of the season' to usher in new year It's looking like a chilly, wet start to the new year for Southern California.According to the National Weather Service, the chance for light precipitation on New Year’s Day is up to 40 percent, but the brunt of a storm system is expected to hit the area Tuesday night. Weather officials are forecasting the “coldest storm of the season so far” to bring up to an inch of rain in most parts of SoCal. Communities at higher elevations may see up to two inches of rain before it turns to snow around 4,500 feet.  Fans call out Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for claiming to try In-N-Out for the ‘first’ time: ‘This is a lie’ “A series of storms will bring periods of light to moderate rain and mountain snow to the area through the week, [with the] strongest on Wednesday,” the National Weather Service said.  There is a 20 percent chance of snow falling as low as 4,000 feet, potentially impacting the Grapevine near the 5 Freeway.  Temperatures are forecast to remain below normal ...

49ers’ Christian McCaffrey says calf injury is “pretty minor” LANDOVER, Md. – Christian McCaffrey made it sound like his playoff availability won’t be threatened by a right calf strain, an injury that sidelined him late in the third quarter of the 49ers’ 27-10 win Sunday over the host Washington Commanders.“Not sure what happened. It was pretty minor,” McCaffrey said. “I was just having a hard time for a little bit just pushing off, and for precautionary reasons, they said, ‘You’d be better to just rest it.’ ”McCaffrey surely will sit out the regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams and then use the wild-card bye to recover.“He was moving around alright on the sideline, so we’re hoping it’s not too bad, but we won’t know until (Monday),” coach Kyle Shanahan said of a likely MRI exam for McCaffrey. Not only have the 49ers (12-4) clinched the No. 1-seed in the NFC playoffs, but McCaffrey’s 1,459 rushing yards should guarantee him the 49ers’ first NFL rushing title since Joe “The Jet” Perry in 1954. McCaffrey has a 315-yard lead over the...

Panthers owner David Tepper tosses drink into visiting stands late in 26-0 loss to Jaguars JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Panthers owner David Tepper threw the contents of a drink into the visiting crowd near the end of Carolina’s 26-0 loss at Jacksonville on Sunday.Tepper’s reaction came after rookie Bryce Young was intercepted with less than 3 minutes to play. It was unclear whether Tepper was reacting to something said to him or the latest miscue for the team with the NFL’s worst record. General manager Scott Fitterer was standing near Tepper when he tossed the remnants of his drink while watching the game from a club suite. The Panthers (2-14) dropped to 0-9 on the road and were shut out for the first time since losing to Atlanta in Week 12 in 2002. They also clinched the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft in April — a selection that will go to Chicago.Nothing went right in this one for Carolina, and had Jacksonville not gone 1 for 5 scoring in the red zone, the outcome likely would have been way more lopsided.Bryce Young completed 19 of 32 passes for 112 yards, with an in...
